Draft Resolution on the Negro Question
[Communist Party, USA], 1946. An internal document stating the position of the Communist Party on the so-called “Negro question,” which includes combatting “white chauvinism,” forging alliances with the Negro people, and rooting out the vestiges of white supremacy in the labor and progressive movements. The document concludes, “...the Communist Party will reinstitute constant educational work within its own ranks and on a broader scale. To uproot false theories and ban race prejudice from the labor and progressive movement, while fighting constantly for Negro rights, is imperative for the welding of a firm alliance with the Negro people in our common struggle against reaction and the threat of fascism.” A valuable document portraying the Communist Party’s desperate attempt to garner the trust and support of blacks who were disillusioned with the inequality in post-War America.
