Young Workers of Pateson [sic]! Colored and White - Demonstrate on National Youth Day, May 30th

Paterson, N. J. United Front National Youth Day Committee, [1933]. A flyer for National Youth Day, a Young Communist League-sponsored event provocatively held on Memorial Day, 1933 to “demonstrate against the danger of Bosses’ War, against the growing unemployment, against wage cuts and discrimination of Negro workers.” Although advertised as being held in Passaic, it’s presumed the event was moved to Perth Amboy as we find accounts in the Communist and Socialist press of a brutal attack by police on the 500 youths and workers who gathered there (see, “The Perth Amboy Assault” by Sam Fisher, a participant). Similar events were organized in many other cities.

Offset printed by a Member of the Trade Union Unity League on fragile pulp paper (11” x 8 ½”). Some chipping along the right edge and the bottom right corner, no text affected. A scarce survivor. Item #9837
