Item #9120 Fire!, Vol. 1, No. 2

Fire!, Vol. 1, No. 2

Chicago: Students for a Democratic Society, 1969. The second of only three issues of this short-lived SDS paper published by the Weatherman-dominated faction following the failed Days of Rage National Action in October. This issue was published directly after the Weatherman's participation in a Washington, D. C. demonstration on Nov.14-15, 1969, and includes an article by the pseudonymous “Marion Delgado” on the need to see SDS as part of the armed struggle. Other articles include a long analysis by the REP Collective on the ideological struggles within SDS, the first of a two-part article reprinted from Tricontinental on “Palestine, the Arabs, and Zionism” by Tabitha Petran, and an anonymously written article on the need to help white youth understand and support the black liberation struggle. A separate 8-page supplement features more propagandistic, less analytic, fare on support for the Viet Cong, a four-page cartoon recounting the militant actions of the Weatherman in Washington, and a report on Weatherman bombings. (The supplement was sold separately by the National Office as well.) One more issue was published on Dec. 6 weeks before the infamous “National War Council” in Flint, MI, in which the Weatherman went underground.

Tabloid format printed in color on newsprint, 16 p. (includes supplement), photographs, illustrations. Small split at spine fold, some toning to newsprint, else Near Fine. Item #9120
