An offprint from “Equal Rights,” the organ of the National Woman’s Party (NWP), that reprints a speech made by attorney and NWP member, Burnita Shelton Matthews, to the Council Meeting of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Hot Springs, Arkansas, in May, 1934. Matthews provides the legal and moral justification for an Equal Rights Amendment and counters the arguments of the Amendment’s opponents.
