Memorial Tribute: From Black Power Forward to Pan-Africanism! A flyer celebrating the life of Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael)

Compton, California: All African People's Revolutionary Party, 1998. Original illustrated flyer announcing a memorial tribute to Kwame Ture (1941–1998), formerly known as Stokely Carmichael, held at Compton Community College on November 29, 1998, just two weeks after his death in Guinea. One of the most influential figures of the Black Power movement, Carmichael served as chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), helped popularize the slogan "Black Power" in 1966, and was briefly associated with the Black Panther Party before relocating to Guinea and dedicating the remainder of his life to revolutionary Pan-Africanism and the All-African People's Revolutionary Party (AAPRP). The AAPRP was founded by Ture in 1969 as a revolutionary Pan-African socialist organization advocating the political unification and liberation of Africa and its diaspora through the overthrow of colonialism, neocolonialism, and capitalism.
