Hitler y la Iglesia: La mentira del ateísmo de Hitler [Hitler and the Church: The Lie of Hitler's Atheism] and Hitler y los animales [Hitler and Animals] (El «otro» Hitler. Volumes 1 and 2)
Barcelona: Ediciones BAU, 1976. The first two volumes of a Spanish neo-Nazi revisionist series published by Ediciones BAU, a Barcelona publishing house associated with CEDADE (Círculo Español de Amigos de Europa), one of Spain's principal postwar National Socialist organizations. Conceived as an effort to rehabilitate Adolf Hitler's historical reputation by exploring supposedly neglected aspects of his personality, private life, and beliefs, the series sought to counter what its publishers characterized as distorted accounts written by the victors of the Second World War.
The first volume, Hitler y la Iglesia, by J. Aguilar and J. M. Asensi, attempts to refute the characterization of Hitler as an atheist and enemy of Christianity, particularly Catholicism. Drawing upon selected speeches, statements by leading National Socialists, and historical documents concerning the relationship between the Nazi Party and religious institutions, the authors argue that Hitler maintained Christian convictions and that accounts of Nazi religious persecution have been exaggerated or misrepresented. The work originated as a short pamphlet associated with CEDADE before being expanded and republished by Ediciones BAU.
The second volume, Hitler y los animales, focuses on Hitler's purported affection for animals, vegetarianism, and appreciation of nature. Illustrated with historical photographs and incorporating anecdotes and biographical commentary, the book attempts to construct a sympathetic portrait of Hitler as a compassionate and sensitive individual. Its introduction explicitly challenges conventional historical assessments of the Nazi dictator, presenting his supposed personal virtues as evidence against his established reputation.
A third volume, Hitler y sus filósofos [Hitler and His Philosophers], was published by Ediciones BAU in 1976 but is not included here. The publisher also advertised additional projected volumes exploring Hitler's relationships with music, women, the military, art, cinema, and other subjects, although the series was apparently never completed.
An illustrative pair of publications documenting the historical revisionism, personality rehabilitation, and ideological propaganda promoted by Spain's organized neo-Nazi movement during the country's transition from Franco's dictatorship to parliamentary democracy.
