Congress of Freedom News, Vol. 3, No. 1 (Oct. 1, 1974)

Summit, Mississippi: Congress of Freedom, Inc., 1974. An issue of this conservative, anti-communist newspaper devoted largely to the Congress of Freedom's 1974 national convention in Arlington, Texas. It reports the reelection of chairman Dr. A. G. Blazey and other officers, the appointment of Sara McCorkle to the board of directors, and the presentation of more than 2,000 awards to conservative activists and organizations nationwide. Convention coverage summarizes speeches opposing federal intervention, communism, racial integration initiatives, progressive educational policies, and internationalist political movements, while promoting constitutional originalism, states' rights, Christianity, and limited government.

A substantial article reprinted from the Committee to Restore the Constitution, “Regionalism: The Montana Rip-Off,” alleges that federal regional planning initiatives and proposed changes to Montana's governmental structure threaten local self-government and constitutional sovereignty. The issue also prints eleven convention resolutions addressing federal judicial authority, compulsory school busing, immigration restrictions, taxation, inflation, criminal punishment, and opposition to the United Nations. Illustrated with photographs of convention speakers and officers, the newspaper offers a revealing record of the organized conservative and conspiratorial anti-federal-government movement of the mid-1970s.

Tabloid format printed in black on newsprint, 8 pp., illus. Laird Wilcox collection stamp to the front cover, else a near fine copy. Item #15420
