Congressional Committee Report on What Happened When Schools Were Integrated in Washington, D. C.

Greenwood, Miss. Association of Citizens' Councils, [1957]. A condensation of a 1956 congressional investigation into Washington, D.C.’s recently desegregated public schools, selectively deploying testimony, enrollment statistics, standardized-test results, and reports of disciplinary problems to portray integration as an educational and social failure. The pamphlet culminates in the recommendation of four Southern congressmen that racially segregated schools be restored, transforming the congressional inquiry into ostensibly authoritative evidence for the Citizens’ Councils’ broader campaign of Massive Resistance.
