Proof of the Communist Domination of Venezuela
Belmont, Massachusetts: American Opinion, 1960. A reprint by the John Birch Society of a purported booklet smuggled out of Caracas in 1960 by an underground anti-Communist group. The text accuses Venezuelan President Rómulo Betancourt and his Democratic Action party of preparing Venezuela for Soviet domination. Allegations of military infiltration, clandestine arms shipments, economic mismanagement, and preparations for civil war culminate in an appeal to the armed forces to rescue the nation. Includes lists identifying officers and their purported political affiliations, credited to the underground newspaper El Grito-Militar. The pamphlet documents right-wing opposition to Betancourt’s newly elected government, which itself faced challenges from the revolutionary left.
