Reconstruction Days of South Carolina

1947. An A+ school report by a young South Carolina woman named Sarah Frances Parker (1926-2011) on South Carolina during Reconstruction. Parker wrote the paper in 1947 as a student at Lander College (now university) in Greenwood, South Carolina. Lander was founded in 1872 as Williamston Female College, although by the time Parker attended men were being admitted. In 1950 Parker married Wade C. Humphrey of Bethune and the couple settled in Greer. Wade Humphrey was a lawyer for the Southern Home and State Auto Company and Sarah was a teacher with the Greenville School District. She died in 2011.
