The Negro's Place in Call of Race (signed)
Tishomingo, Oklahoma: Published by the author, 1948. First edition. The “last word” on the subject of social mixture and interracial marriages from ex-Oklahoma governor, William “Alfalfa Bill” Murray. Murray’s disjointed treatise relies on the Bible, race science, and history to argue for complete racial separation. His paternalism is reflected in the following assertion, “In truth, the Negro at no time, in no clime, ever advanced, except under both the tutelage and environment of the white man,” and although he admits that there is a place for both Jews and Blacks in the U.S., he maintains that they are not fit for “policy framing” (i.e., they should serve a more subservient role). To save America from a mongrel race, Murray recommends mixed areas preserve strict segregation and where possible mono-racial communities should be formed and maintained.
Out of 107 pages, only 40 are devoted to Murray’s racialist treatise, the rest of the book is assorted appendices, mostly coming from other sources, railing against Jews, Catholics, Communists, F.D.R., etc. The Protocols are discussed throughout. Also included is a promotional broadside for the book reprinting Haiti missionary, Dr. John R. Turnbull's account of Voodoo ritual murder practiced by black magicians in Haiti.
8vo. Navy blue cloth stamped in gilt, 107 pp., frontis illustration depicting "Father Noah separating the black children of the curse," one other illustration, dust jacket. SIGNED by Murray on the front pastedown. A near fine copy in a slightly rubbed, but about near fine dust jacket. A few small chips or closed tears to the edges. Uncommon in the trade. Item #14997
