Heathen Children and Heathen Sacrifices

Boston: Mass. Sabbath School Society, 1845. A scarce Sabbath School book on the inherent cruelty of some heathen parents and children. The auther recounts anecdotes from India and Africa about children who leave their parents to die and child sacrifice in India as a part of Hindoo pagan rituals. Other short chapters describe the conversion of a young African boy and the education of Hindoo girls by missionaries. The book concludes with a missionary hymn.

Small format, boards measuring ca. 5" x 3"; brown ribbed cloth, blind and gilt stamped. 48 pp., three full-page engravings and one engraved tailpiece. Presentation inscription to the ffep; cloth chipping along spine, small piece missing along lower spine. Title page states that printing was from the London edition and revised by publication committee. Not found in WorldCat by this title, although it appears related to a book in the AAS catalog, Heathen sacrifices, The Hindoo girl seeking Jesus, and, Little George (1855). Item #14658
