A small collection of right wing tracts and cards printed by John W. Biggert of Memphis, TN
Memphis: J. Biggert, [196-?]. This collection of 15 cards and tracts were printed and distributed by John W. Biggert of Memphis, Tennessee. Biggert began printing “patriotic literature” in the 1960s when he became incensed over hippies burning the American flag. He distributed his cards and tracts over the next four decades drawing attention to many right wing causes, but he also led one-man campaigns in the Memphis area against smoking, gun control, the legal system, and even Sears, Roebuck & Co. He was profiled numerous times in Memphis area publications for his impassioned, but largely ineffectual antics. The items included here focus on Communism, sex education, liberalism, taxation, the counterculture, social welfare, and other right wing bugbears. None are extremist. Nine of the items measure 5 ½” x 3 ¼” and are printed on both sides; the other six items are business card size (4" x 2 ¼”) and also printed on both sides. Item #14379
