African-American soldier's World War II photo album

n.p. n.p., [194-]. A photo album compiled by an unidentified African American Army Staff Sergeant consisting of approximately 130 black & white snapshots (most 2 ½” x 3 ½”) depicting his tour in what appears to be Germany and France. The album begins with a studio portrait of the compiler with his wife or girlfriend, but primarily consists of photographs that show him posing with other African American soldiers, local women and families, or with weapons or in front of tanks or other military vehicles. Some of the photographs are of women who have either signed or inscribed them with their name and the date, and a few are studio portraits of women. The compiler has also added his own brief descriptions to the margins of other photographs (e.g., "Times whin deth was near," "change in the wether," Once whin time change," etc.).

The album itself is in rough shape with wear and chipping to the front, embossed leather board, which is detached from the webbing, the rear board is missing. A number of the photographs are loose, although the majority are still attached. Item #14376

Price: $2,000.00
