The Red Fog

Washington, D. C. National Patriotic League, ©1929. Second Edition. The Red Fog was a book by two anti-Communist women activists named Bonnie Busch and Lucia Ramsey Maxwell who were members of the National Patriotic League, a non-profit, civic organization founded in 1915 in Washington, D. C. “for the purpose of teaching history and quickening the spirit of patriotism by means of motion pictures.” Incorporators were C. A. Korbly, L. T. Michener, and J. W. Nichal (“The Washington Herald, Thursday, Aug. 12, 1915, p. 10). The group attracted many women and became particularly concerned with the rise of radical movements, particularly communism, which is reflected in The Red Fog. The book is a carefully prepared account of the socialist, communist, and atheist propaganda being taught in schools and colleges with the desire to subvert the family, home, and nation.
