Two Special Bulletins from the Office of the Grand Dragon, Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, Realm of New Jersey
Belmar, New Jersey: Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, 1928. Two extremely scarce internal documents from the 1920s era New Jersey Ku Klux Klan and its Grand Dragon, Arthur Bell. Bell, who was an attorney, became Grand Dragon of the New Jersey Klan around 1922 and remained in that role until he was removed in 1940 for famously holding a joint rally with the German American Bund at Camp Nordland. The two Special Bulletins offered here report on Klan activities and are especially focused on opposing the Presidential campaign of Catholic Governor Al Smith. The Vol. 3, No. 6 issue advertises two Klan events in NJ with one featuring a two-and-a-half hour dramatic production written by Bell titled, "The People vs The Pope."
Both bulletins consist of a single sheet folded (11” x 8 ½”), each issue 4 p. Some toning to paper, otherwise both issues are in near fine condition. One holding in WorldCat (UC Irvine). Item #14045
