Item #13845 Friedrich Nietzsche. George Brandes.

Friedrich Nietzsche

London: William Heinemann, 1915. New Edition. An important book by the Jewish, Danish literary theorist on the work of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche first published in English in 1914. Brandes was largely responsible for introducing Scandinavians - and indeed all of Europe - to Nietzsche’s thought. He coined the phrase “arisoticratic radicalism” to describe this thought, to which Nietzsche responded favorably: “The expression ‘arosticratic radicalism,’ which you employ, is very good. It is, permit me to say, the cleverest thing I have yet read about myself” (Nietzsche, Dec. 2, 1887). The book includes Brandes’ influential essay, “An Essay on Aristrocratic Radicalism” (1889), correspondence between Brandes and Nietzsche, and two shorter untitled essays written in 1900 and 1909.
