Buffalo: Logos Press, 1971. First Edition. The seventh book of poetry by Michael C. Flanigan who was a protege of Charles Olson and the artist-in-residence at Buffalo State from 1969-72. Flanigan was orphaned at age nine after the murder-suicide of his parents and never completed high school. He arrived in New York City at the age of 17 and moved to Buffalo in 1965 where he participated in poetry readings with Olson, Robert Creeley, Allen Ginsburg, and others. He founded Logos Press to publish his own works, taught poetry workshops around the country, and was the host of an internet radio show called Poetry Is for People.
Visions of the Child was inspired by a mystical experience Flanigan had while exploring the Zoar Valley with two friends. The cover art was done by his three-year-old daughter who appears with him on the rear cover.
Stapled cover, black linen tape spine as issue, 52 p., mimeographed sheets. INSCRIBED by Flanigan to the ffep; although there is no limitation page, Flanigan has numbered this copy '32'. Laid in are an order form and a typed, mimeographed letter from Flanigan to Logos Press subscribers. Rubbing to covers, else a very good copy. Only one copy in WorldCat at SUNY Buffalo. Item #13559
