Negro Liberation
New York: International Publishers, 1948. A seminal Marxist-Leninist work by the black Communist Party member and intellectual Harry Haywood on the post-war status of African Americans in the U.S. Haywood posits that African American people, particularly in the Black Belt South are an oppressed nation whose liberation requires self-determination (including secession if democratically decided), revolutionary class struggle, and the overthrow of U.S. imperialism. Haywood was one of the key theorticians of the Party’s Black Belt doctrine when it was formulated during the 1920s. But the CPUSA eventually abandoned the thesis while Haywood continued to promote it. He was later expelled from the Party for this and other ideological differences.
Trade paperback format, frontispiece map of the Black Belt, 245 p. Edge wear and rubbing to wrappers; a very good copy. Also issued in hardcover. A second edition was published in 1976 by Liberator Press in Chicago, which Haywood was then involved in. Item #13489
