The National Federation for Constitutional Liberties (NFCL) was composed of labor activists, church leaders, Communist Party members, and other progressive activists, but essentially became a Communist Front group. It was founded in 1940 at a national conference on civil liberties and in 1946 joined the International Labor Defense and National Negro Congress to form the Civil Rights Congress.
