The International Brigade
Sussex: The Ditchling Press, [1939?]. A detailed report on the origination, composition, function, and ideology of the International Brigades, which the author contends was not organized spontaneously, but through the concerted effort of the Third International. Originally printed in the distributist newspaper The Weekly Review - the successor to G. K. Chesterton's G.K's Weekly - this first separate publication was undertaken by The Ditchling Press in Sussex, a private press founded by Hilary Pepler in 1916 as St. Dominic's Press and associated with Eric Gill and the Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic (by the time this pamphlet was published, Pepler had left the press and the Guild leaving the press in the hands of his son, Mark).
Stapled wrappers (8 ½” x 5 ½”), 3-46 p., eight photographs. Staples oxidized with some staple bleed to spine; toning to wrappers. An uncommon title in the trade. Item #12511
