Shovel Scoops (34 issues)

San Francisco: 112th Naval Construction Battalion, 1944-1945. A substantial run of this Seabees newsletter published weekly by the 112th Naval Construction Battalion stationed in San Francisco. Each issue reported on all aspects of battalion life and included battalion news, letters from home, a column written by the chaplain, photographs from social events, a mail section, cartoons, a sports section, etc. The newsletter was apparently started by a Seabee photographer by the name of Charles W. Knickerbocker. Confusingly, our run includes two different formats and the numbering/dating doesn't appear to follow sequentially.

Larger format issues include Vol. II, Nos. 2-5, 7-9, 11-13 (12 mis-numbered 11), 15-17, 23; Vol. III, Nos. 2, 5.

Small format issues include Vol. 2, Nos. 4-7, 9-10, 15-16 (mis-numbered 14?); Vol. III, Nos. 7, 9-17.

Mimeographed sheets, mostly in black, a few in color; multiple formats: 11" x 8 ½”, 9” x 6 ¾”, and 8 ½” x 5 ½”; each issue 4-12 p., illustrated. Not cataloged in WorldCat. A scarce run.
