The Anti-Fascist Commentator / The Commentator: A Marxist Analysis of Issues and Events (six issues)
Bronx: The Anti-Fascist Commentator, 1973-1976. Half of all published issues of this newsletter-turned-newspaper issued by a Marxist-Leninist collective in the Bronx between 1973-77. The group believed that Nixon represented America's slow descent into fascism and therefore originally called its newsletter The Anti-Fascist Commentator. But by 1974, beginning with issue no. 6, it simply became The Commentator and changed formats to a tabloid newspaper. One of the group's more popular articles was "Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire: A Political Analysis of George Wallace," which was published in issue 9 (included here). Each issue featured lengthy analysis on a range of topics including Zionism/Anti-Semitism, Watergate, the Criminal Justice Reform Act of 1975, the economics of racism, the labor movement, etc, all within a Marxist framework. Included here are one issue of The Anti-Fascist Commentator, No. 2 and The Commentator, Nos. 8-12 (final issue).
Issue 2 is one sheet folded, 4 p. The rest tabloid format printed on newsprint, all issues 8 p., except one, which is 12 p., illus. A fine run. Item #12094
