Originally delivered as a speech at the 1977 Black Organizers' Conference held at UMass-Amherst, Yeshitela's ideas were adopted by the African People's Socialist Party as a guiding document. It was serialized in the APSP's newspaper, The Burning Spear, in 1977 and issued in pamphlet form in 1979.
