The Image of Women in Homophile Novels

Venice, CA: Everywoman Publishing Company, 1971. A hastily written survey of homophile novels and their depiction of women as “physically disgusting, mentally vapid, emotinally unresponsive, and spiritually dead” “faghags, prostitutes, hangers-on, nymphomaniacs, bovine housewives, mean bitches, ambitious social climbers, and parasites” (p. 20). Varda One was the pseudonym for Varda Murrell who co-founded the feminist newspaper “Everywoman” with Ann Herschfang.
