
China's New Democracy
New York: New Century Publishers, 1945. Second printing. The scarce first English language edition (second printing) of the fundamental Maoist work and the most authoritative expression of the platform and policies of the Chinese Communist Party. Written by Mao at the end of 1940, the work was first published in the January 15, 1941 issue of the magazine Chinese Culture under the title, “The Politics and Culture of New Democracy.” Following the establishment of the People’s Republic in 1949, the book was taught in all schools and colleges across China and used by labor unions and cooperatives as a key organizational text.
The Communist Party USA first published an English translation (translator unknown) in 1944, which was then issued in pamphlet form by the Party’s Workers Library Publishers. The first printing of the New Century edition was 7,500 copies with another 5,000 copies of this second printing. All scarce in the trade, with no other copies currently being offered of any printing (nor of the Workers Library edition).
