A small collection of People Against Racism material

Detroit: People Against Racism, 1969-1971? People Against Racism (PAR) was founded in the late 1960s in Detroit by white activists involved with the Friends of the Northern Student Movement. The group worked to “expose racism and educate people with regard to its function and operation in society; to support the efforts of people of color for self-determination; to confront racism through militant action on issues which arise locally, nationally, or internationally; to oppose racism in our own communities and create anti-racist alternatives” (from the group’s statement of purpose). They published a short-lived journal and newspaper, with both simply titled People Against Racism. Very few issues of either appear to have survived with only six institutions in OCLC holding scattered issues of either. This small collection includes issues of the group’s short-lived journal and newspaper, position papers, and anti-racism material distributed by the group.
