Item #10560 Manifesto to the White Christian Churches and the Jewish Synagogues in the United States of America and All Other Racist Institutions. James Forman.

Manifesto to the White Christian Churches and the Jewish Synagogues in the United States of America and All Other Racist Institutions

Belmont, Massachusetts: American Opinion, [ca. 1969]. A reprint by the John Birch Society of James Forman’s controversial Black Manifesto first presented at the National Black Economic Development Conference held in Detroit in April, 1969. A month later Forman barged into Riverside Church in NYC, took over the microphone and read the manifesto, which demanded $500 million (later raised to $3 billion) from Christian churches and Jewish synagogues in reparations for slavery and the continued oppression of the Black community. This horrified organizations such as the John Birch Society, which eagerly reprinted the manifesto verbatim to demonstrate how militant the civil rights movement had become.

Stapled wrappers (9” x 6”), 7 p. Wilcox Collection stamp to the front wrapper, Liberty Library, Clayton, Mo. to the rear wrapper, else Near Fine. Item #10560
