Supporters of Silkwood Newsletter, Issue #5, May, 1978
Washington, D. C. Supporters of Silkwood, 1978. An issue of the Supporters of Silkwood newsletter, which provided information on the legal case filed by Karen Silkwood’s family following her mysterious death while on her way to meet a New York Times journalist in 1974. Silkwood, a plutonium worker and spokesperson for the Oil, Chemical, and Atomic Workers Union, had been documenting health and safety violations of the Atomic Energy Act at the Kerr-McGee plutonium plant in Cimarron, Oklahoma where she was employed. Besides updates on the investigations into her death and the case filed by her family against Kerr-McGee, there are articles on nuclear radiation, beryllium exposure, and testimonies from environmentalist, union, religious, feminist and civil liberties activists on Silkwood’s legacy.
