Poetry Chicago, Spring 1958
Chicago: Poetry Chicago, 1958. A one-off poetry publication edited by the future leader of the American Nazi Party, Matt Koehl. The journal was funded by Koehl’s mentor, probable lover, and conspiracy theorist, Eustace Mullins, who contributes one poem (“The Outer Isles”). Most of the contributions come from Koehl (12 poems), but there is also an excerpt from Hugo Plantagenet’s “Risus Sardonicus,” published in full the same year by Eustace Mullins’ Three Hands Press, and four poems from Wade Donahue.
Mullins was already a noted far right writer/researcher, but he balanced his political activities with small press poetry publishing before turning all of his attention to the Jewish Question during the 1960s. Koehl would soon join the National Renaissance Party, National States Rights Party, and finally, the American Nazi Party and succeeded George Lincoln Rockwell as the leader following Rockwell’s 1967 assassination. He quietly ran the party (which he later renamed New Order) from 1967 until his death in 2014.
