An Exhibition Poster for Sam Goodman's NO-Sculptures Art Show

New York: Gallery: Gertrude Stein, 1964. An 17” x 24” offset printed poster for Sam Goodman’s controversial NO-Sculptures [Shit Show] held at the Gertrude Stein Gallery from May 12-May 30, 1964. The show featured 21 piles of sculpted excrement described by fellow artist Boris Lurie as “an ultimate gesture of aggressive manly despair plunged into our consciousness with the exactitude of the matador in the final kill.” Goodman, along with Boris Lurie and Stanley Fisher founded the March Group (around the March Gallery on East Tenth St.) in 1959, which then gave birth to the NO!art Movement. He and Lurie collaborated on a number of provocative shows titled Vulgar, Involvement and Doom before Goodman died prematurely of cancer in 1967. A scarce surviving poster. One copy located in OCLC at the Stichting Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Item #07240

Price: $275.00
