[Berkeley?: Bay Area Blacks United]. An 8½” x 11” mimeographed sheet threatening a boycott of businesses in downtown Berkeley, which the Bay Area Blacks United accuse of being run like a plantation. The boycott began on Aug. 31, 1968, in protest against numerous instances of police brutality against black citizens. Other boycotts were initiated in Oakland and San Francisco and were part of a larger boycott called by Jesse Jackson in communities that suffered from police brutality.
