Free All Custer S.D. Victims - Sarah Bad Heart Bull

n.p.: South Dakota, AIM, [1973]. A 5 ” x 8 ½” handbill for a rally in Pierre, South Dakota, sponsored by the American Indian Movement (AIM). Marlon Brando and Harry Belafonte appear on the flyer as celebrity attendees, both being outspoken critics of the events at Wounded Knee. Besides calling for the pardon of all Wounded Knee participants, the rally sought to highlight the case of Sarah Bad Heart Bull, a Native American woman arrested following a courthouse riot that developed over the death of her son and the lenient sentence given to his white assailant. 30 Native Americans were arrested following the riot and it’s thought to have been one of the catalysts for Wounded Knee, which began weeks later.
