The History Book

Venice: The Midnight Special, 1974. First American edition. Paperback. 4to. (10.75" x 8.25"); perfect-bound; 151, [1] pp.; profusely illustrated. Nearly a decade before the publication of Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States came this underground, revisionist textbook focused on the “common people.” The book was originally written and published in Sweden and focused on the previous 500 years of imperialist European and American history, chiefly as it relates to Africa. The book is largely comprised of colorful illustrations, a purposeful attempt to inculcate children with its revised historical perspective. The collective around the Midnight Special bookstore in California decided to publish an English language edition and solicited the Peace Press, an underground printing outfit, for the job. A little wear and grubbiness to wrappers. Very Good. Item #03610
