The Guide Post, Vol. 1, No. 1, October 1956 [with] Perspective, Vol. 1, No. 2 [first two issues]

Anoka, Minnesota: The Guide Post / Perspective, 1956. First edition. Two stapled issues printed in blue, 32; 32 pp. Some soiling to the front cover of both issues, but VG. The only issues found in WorldCat are at the Minnesota Historical Society (who also have his papers). Scarce thus.

The first two issues (of only four published) of this journal published in Ankora, Minnesota, by Hans R. Miller, a second generation Dane and co-founder of the American Trade Exchange, a cooperative farm colony in Lake Cross, MN. Miller, who was also an engineer, inventor and manufacturer, established the journal to propose a “free world policy” based on “(1) A universal medium of exchange - a world dollar and (2) A universal rental on natural resources, the income to be used for the benefit of all people.” Based on his experience assisting farmers during the Great Depression, Miller was contemptuous of bankers and the Federal Reserve and advocated “true capitalism with free enterprise” as a third position to the machinations of the “international racketeers” and Communists. He would go on to run for Senator in 1958, although he lost badly to Eugene McCarthy. Item #02792
