World Solidarity Day - Support the Struggle for Freedom in Southern Africa...Tues., May 25th, 1971 [poster title]

n.p. n.p., 1971. First edition. Large offset litho poster on newsprint (58 x 42 cm) created for World Solidarity Day. Also known as African Solidarity Day, the event appears to have been conceived by the pan-Africanist Student Organization for Black Unity (later the Youth Organization for Black Unity) and was celebrated annually on May 25, the date in 1963 that the Organization of African Unity was established in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The poster art was by (James) Jim Seitu Dyson (1942-1992), an African-American artist gunned down by drug dealers as he worked security outside of an Acorn building site in East New York in 1992. Newsprint slightly browned along the edges, but about Near Fine; creases at the folds. We find one copy at Northwestern University, although a few copies of a 1972 edition appear. Item #02613

Price: $400.00
