Bound in half navy blue morocco and half marbled paper; marbled page edges; xix, 327 pp. An unattributed satirical work by the American writer and Secretary of the U.S. Navy, James Kirke Paulding (1778-1860). Paulding was a friend and collaborator of Washington Irving's and was associated with the "Knickerbocker Group." In this work, he caricatures the class of British travel writers known themselves for caricaturing American society to their readers back in England. A Very Good copy with some rubbing to binding and paper loss to board edges. Item #02085
