The World of General Haushofer: Geopolitics in Action

New York: Farrar & Rinehart, Inc., 1942. First edition. Octavo (21 cm); xxi, 337 pp.; photographic frontispiece of Haushofer; maps. Red cloth boards stamped in black to front board and spine. A Very Good copy lacking the dust jacket. Some minor scuffing and rubbing to cloth. The working copy of historian and scholar, Donald H. Norton, who presumably used Dorpalen's book to inform his own article on Haushofer, "Karl Haushofer and the German Academy, 1924-1945" published in a 1968 issue of Central European History. With his stamp to front endpaper and title page and his annotations and marginalia throughout (although we find none past page 59). Later reprinted by Kennikat Press, most copies found in commerce are ex-library. Karl Haushofer (1869-1946) was a German general and scholar most famous for his theories of geopolitik, which laid the foundation for Germany's fight for Lebensraum. Item #01390
